SSenStone’s OTAC Trusted Access Gateway (TAG) earns UL certification for North America

SSenStone’s OT security solution, OTAC Trusted Access Gateway (TAG), has been awarded UL certification in the United States. The certification covers two models, the entry-level MGW-OT1000D and the advanced MGW-OT2000D, and was registered in September. It confirms that OTAC Trusted Access Gateway (TAG) meets the equipment safety standards expected on industrial sites across North America.

UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is one of the most established testing and certification bodies in the US, assessing products for electrical, fire and shock safety. The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires electrical equipment used in the workplace to be certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), and UL is the best known of these. In critical infrastructure sectors such as power generation, water treatment and manufacturing, UL certification is widely regarded as a baseline requirement for new equipment.

The US has been raising the bar on OT security following a series of cyber attacks on water, energy and other critical infrastructure. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has repeatedly urged operators to control remote access to industrial control systems and to adopt multi-factor authentication. With attackers increasingly using legitimate accounts to reach equipment, verifying an operator’s identity at the moment they connect has become all the more important.

OTAC Trusted Access Gateway (TAG) is a dedicated OT authentication solution that combines SSenStone’s one-way dynamic authentication technology, OTAC (One-Time Authentication Code), with industrial hardware from MX On, a company driving the shift to autonomous manufacturing. Whenever an operator connects to an OT endpoint such as a PLC or RTU to download or upload a program, OTAC Trusted Access Gateway (TAG) first verifies their access rights and identity, blocking anyone who is not authorised. Because it leaves operational traffic untouched and controls only the access channel, it stops unauthorised access precisely, without changes to existing equipment, process delays or false positives. It also supports the controls that real operating environments need, from managing access by external maintenance staff and contractors to preventing shared accounts.

With UL now added to the KC certification it holds in Korea and the CE marking it holds in Europe, OTAC Trusted Access Gateway (TAG) meets the hardware safety requirements of all three of these major markets.
