Ditch the Cybersecurity Hassle with OTAC
Trust No One.
During my travels in New York, what stood out the most was the enthralling jazz music and the magnificent nightscapes of Times Square. However, what was even more intriguing and surprising was something I heard from an elderly Caucasian man I met in a cafe. He shared an interesting fact: "Did you know that the residents of Manhattan don't pay water bills?" Indeed, in New York, most households are charged for sewage treatment but not for tap water usage. This is in contrast to other states in the USA, where water bills are common and can be up to six times more expensive than in Manhattan, home to 1.6 million people and boasting the highest population density in the country. It's quite astonishing that in such a densely populated city, residents are exempt from paying for tap water. But why is this the case? Is it due to the high taxes in Manhattan? The answer, it turns out, is attributed to the oil magnate John D. Rockefeller. Rockefeller, who founded Standard Oil in 1870 and whose wealth in 1937 would be equivalent to about 497 trillion KRW today (comparable to the market capitalization of Samsung Electronics), is said to have made a significant contribution. According to his will, the Rockefeller Foundation has been covering the water bills for New York residents.
What then was the secret to Rockefeller's success? Among many factors, one notable aspect was his profound skepticism – he trusted no one. This trait was ingrained in him since childhood by his father, who taught him never to trust anyone, not even his father. In a lesson, his father once told him to jump from a high chair, promising to catch him. However, when young Rockefeller leapt, his father stepped away, letting him fall to the ground, and then remarked, "Remember, son. Don't trust anyone, not even me." This lesson of mistrust helped Rockefeller navigate the cutthroat world of business, rife with deceit, without ever being swindled himself, eventually leading to his immense wealth and his ability to pay for the water bills of New York City's citizens.
"Indeed, it's essential not to trust anyone."
In a world where distinguishing truth from falsehood is increasingly challenging, there's a growing sentiment that humanity's compassion is fading away. The prevailing notion seems to suggest a stringent lack of trust in anyone, driven by a fear of being deceived. This stance, although pragmatic in protecting oneself from fraud, often leads to an unfulfilling and guarded existence. The question arises: Is there a more graceful approach than simply trusting no one?
Mark Manson addresses this dilemma in his book "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck". He asserts that our belief in needing to have everything plunges us into a 'hellish cycle of endless pursuit.' The book challenges the traditional notion of positive thinking, advocating instead for a more realistic and straightforward approach. Manson encourages choosing wisely what we care about, focusing our energy on what truly matters, and not wasting it on trivialities. The ability to selectively care is touted as a key to success and happiness – to truly see what matters, one must learn to ignore what doesn't.
Consider the complexity we choose for security, like the One-Time Password (OTP) system. Initially, it requires identity authentication through username and passwords, followed by various authentication steps, including entering OTPs. This complexity, while ensuring secure financial transactions, often becomes a hurdle for seniors or those less tech-savvy, pushing them towards offline services. Recognizing the need for both security and simplicity, a more elegant solution has been developed: the "OTAC(One-Time Authentication Code)" technology.
Hassle-Free, SSenStone's "OTAC" Technology
SSenStone's OTAC technology represents an innovative approach to authentication, employing a real-time, one-time code authentication system. This technology simultaneously supports user and device authentication, functioning even in off-the-network environment. Only authorized mobile devices can connect, enhancing security measures typically found in employee IDs, access cards, and payment cards. The implementation of OTAC technology in these areas significantly strengthens the existing user authentication processes.
The ease of use is remarkably straightforward. Users simply need to run an app developed by SSenStone or a client-specific app that OTAC technology embedded. By tagging a registered card to their mobile phone, a one-time alphanumeric or QR code is generated. This generated code allows users to authenticate themselves simply by entering or scanning the code, thereby granting access to the intended system. While this might initially seem similar to traditional password systems, the key difference lies in the ever-changing nature of the authentication code, which can only be used once. This dual benefit provides a highly convenient authentication method for users and a secure authentication system for the infrastructure, effectively capturing the best of both worlds.
SSenStone's "Hassle-Free" Technology Now a Reality in Everyday Life
I recently joined Toss Bank and was amazed when I received my debit card. The reason for my astonishment was the seamless integration of SSenStone's "Hassle-Free" technology. SSenStone's OTAC generates a code in real-time just by tagging the smartphone's backside with my debit card. In simple terms, this technology resolves the traditionally complex and bothersome authentication process with just a card. It is currently considered the most advanced form of authentication solution.
For Toss Bank app users, this means that simply tagging their issued debit card to their phone enables them to use high-value transfer services easily. Even our elderly parents can navigate Toss Bank without getting lost in complicated authentication processes. This technology supports not only authentication but also serves as a 2FA (two factor authentication) for high-value transfers and transactions.
Digital authentication is a powerful tool for our protection. However, if it feels inconvenient and creates barriers for users, it's not an effective method. Just a few years ago, maintaining authentication methods was a hassle. Even now, I'm not sure where my OTP card issued by a traditional bank has gone. It seems like visiting the bank would be necessary for large transactions. But SSenStone's OTAC technology has freed us from the burden of numerous authentications. The OTAC technology combines the best aspects of the most widely used authentication systems. So, let's experience the simple yet robust security authentication created by SSenStone. By doing so, you will become a savvy user of the 'Hassle-Free' technology in digital security.
